What is a PRN file?
A PRN file contains instructions a printer would receive, rather than an editable document. Its contents depend on the printer driver that created it. This converter interprets supported print instructions to recreate the pages in a portable PDF—not a text dump of printer commands.

Can I open a PRN file without a printer?
Yes. Convert a supported PRN file here, then open the downloaded PDF in your browser or PDF viewer. There is no software to install and no account to create.
Which PRN files can I convert?
This tool supports PostScript, PCL 5 and PCL XL (PCL 6) print jobs, including common PJL-wrapped files. You can also upload .ps, .pcl and .pxl files directly. PRN files using XPS, ESC/P, ZPL or proprietary printer languages are not supported. If yours fails, export again with a PostScript or PCL driver.
Will the layout and text be preserved?
The converter recreates the print job’s pages, including supported text, graphics and images. Text can remain selectable when the source contains text rather than a picture of it; this tool does not perform OCR. Some PCL graphics require image-based pages, which do not retain selectable text. Printer-specific fonts, paper trays or overlays can affect the result, so review the PDF before relying on it.
Can I change the paper size or remove color?
Keep “Original print size” to follow the page dimensions in your file; jobs without a size use the interpreter’s default. Choose A4 or US Letter to fit pages to standard paper. Grayscale turns colors into shades of gray, not strictly black and white.
Can I just rename .prn to .pdf?
No. Renaming changes the filename, not the print instructions inside. A converter must interpret those instructions and create an actual PDF document.
What happens to my uploaded file?
Conversion runs on our server using temporary files, which are removed when processing finishes or fails. Your documents are not sent to an external conversion provider or saved in an account. Your original file on your device stays unchanged.
